Rose Harissa Humous with Toasted Pine Nuts and Pomegranate

I could happily sit with a bowlful of this houmous and some pitta or flatbreads and demolish the whole thing. Making your own houmous is so easy and the difference in taste from the shop bought stuff shocks me every time. In this version I drizzle some rose harissa over the top before finishing with some pomegranates, mint and toasted pine nuts, but you can top it with whatever you like - crispy chickpeas, caramelised onions, chilli oil, pesto, feta cheese, spiced lamb mince, you name it.

Harissa Baked Chicken with Fridge Raid Bulgur Wheat Salad and Spiced Houmous

This recipe is quick, fresh and healthy and is also an ideal way to clear out your fridge of any veggies you might have lying around. It also just happens to be super tasty and has one of my favourite ingredients of all time - rose harissa. It’s very straightforward and you can put whatever you want in the bulgur wheat salad. This is my favourite way to cook chicken breasts. It’s all in the marination, leaving them at room temperature for at least 30 mins before frying, frying over a medium/low heat to develop a gentle crust and then baking at a lowish temperature so it stays nice and moist.

Spiced Harissa Chickpea Carrots with Carrot Top Dill Pesto

This carrot recipe was too good not to share on its own. It makes a great side for a roast dinner or as part of a larger vegetarian mezze feast. The spiced carrots with crispy chickpeas work so well with the vibrant, zingy green pesto made from the tops of the carrots (a great way to cut down waste as well). Give these a go to elevate your roast game.

Slow Roast Spiced Leg of Lamb, Harissa Carrots with Dill Carrot Top Pesto, Bejewelled Rice and Mint Jus

This is my kind of Sunday roast. Shove the lamb in the oven in the morning and in a few hours you’re left with the most succulent, tender meat and a few lovely crispy bits from the bottom of the roasting tray (i.e. the best bits). Leg of lamb is a more expensive piece of meat but this fed 7 people comfortably so if you are looking for a special joint as a celebration meal, you do get your money’s worth. The spices used throughout this recipe also make this more expensive than most of the recipes I post, but hopefully if you do make this meal, you’ll find that sometimes it’s ok to splash out for a special occasion. The buttery saffron rice soaks up all the juices and is studded with dried fruit, chopped nuts, cinnamon, bay leaves, and cardamom pods. When it’s left in the pan on a really low temperature it also forms this lovely crispy buttery crust on the bottom which is so so good.

Dukkah Chicken with Harissa, Chickpea and Spiced Tomato Bulgur with a Lemon Tahini Yoghurt

This recipe has some of my most favourite things. Dukkah, tahini, rose harissa, pine nuts all come together in this delicious and healthy chicken salad which is perfect for leftovers or for a hearty dinner. Roasting the chickpeas with the tomatoes on the vine and a mixture of whole and ground slices adds so much flavour to the bulgur wheat. The rose harissa adds a subtle heat which doesn’t overpower the chicken and the tahini yoghurt is cooling and nutty with the flavour of sesame.

Harissa Baked Salmon with Pea, Feta and Mint Smash

This is one of my go-to meals for when I am short on time and need a healthy meal fast. The ingredients list is small and are all things which can be easily picked up on your way home or you will have them in your cupboard already. I cook this a lot, and by a lot I mean a lot, but whenever I have it I am surprised at just how tasty it is. Tasty, fresh, quick and easy, I hope this becomes a staple in your house like it has in mine.

Harissa Chicken, Sweet Potato and Red Pepper Traybake, Parsley Yoghurt and a Lemon, Olive and Herb Dressing

This recipe uses the tried and tested combination of harissa, sweet potato and red pepper for a deliciously simple midweek meal. The tender, caramelised chicken thighs, cooling yoghurt and sharp herby dressing add more flavours and textures and elevate this from your typical traybake recipe. A perfect, healthy midweek meal.

Harissa Cauliflower Steak with Sundried Tomato Whipped Feta, Zingy Herb Dressing, Spiced Cauliflower Couscous and a Caper, Raisin and Pinenut Salsa

With this recipe you can feed a family of 4 for under £10. It’s full of flavour and texture and a delicious, satisfying veggie meal. The cauliflower “steaks” become beautifully soft, buttery and caramelised and absorb all the lovely flavours from my favourite rose harissa paste. The whipped feta is a complete game-changer and this recipe would work so well as part of any meat/fish/mezze spread.

Chargrilled Sweetheart Cabbage with Harissa Butter, Preserved Lemon and Parsley Yoghurt, Pickled Red Onions, Toasted Hazelnuts and Raisins

I love the smokiness of the charred cabbage with the heat of the harissa butter, cooling sharpness of the lemon yoghurt, and all the textures from the toasted nuts, pickled onions and sweetness from the raisins. This is a filling, flavour packed veggie dish which works great on its own or as a side dish and can easily be made vegan.
